THE MAMA LAW

Mama Law CoverThis was the first of Adams' plays and premiered the night Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980.

Set in the near future, a man returns to the United States after a long assignment overseas. It is taking him some time to readjust. Particularly to his MAMA – an agent of the Metro-Rural Agression management program. It was decided that everyone should just "be nice" and to make sure you are nice you have a MAMA, who lives with you and corrects when necessary. MAMAs have replaced the bothersome system we had before and are now the Police, Judge, Jury – and beyond for those who won't "be nice".

A one act play. One sets, cast of three. This play is available for staged readings or production by contract with the author.

FEVER

Mama Law CoverA textured romance set in Latin America in the 1930s, FEVER was Adams' best received play on the Los Angeles scene. Reviews of the play are included with the playbook.

At a lonely airstrip, several people are forced together as they wait for a plane to take them from the village where they have watched their family and friends die from an unnamed disease.

An American reporter, a local undertaker, the doctor who could not help those who came to him for help, the grand madame of local society and her personal servant, and the man who runs the airstrip and there to meet a young woman who has recently learned that the people who raised her were not her biological parents and who has come to this town to find her real mother and father. Written with the style and mood the classic Latino theater styles, but performed in English, FEVER brings the characters slamming together from the desperate need to escape the death reaching out to them from the village, and forces them into revelations.

A full length, two act play in ten scenes. Two sets, cast of seven. This play is available for staged readings or production by contract with the author.

LIVING IN THE HOUSE OF ANGELS

Living in the House of Angels coverThis was most recent of Adams plays and was originally produced through social services and church programs in the San Francisco bay community (Berkeley, San Francisco, and Oakland), the play chronicles a ficticious improvised community hosice center in the early days of the AIDS crisis. This play was additional produced in staged readings as a fund raiser for early 1990s ministry to the PWA community.

The play revovles around the staff, volunteers, and patients at a neighborhood hospice set up to provide services for people who have no other place to go. The staff are two overworked salaried employees who are burning out from their 24/7 emergencies, a visiting nurse who is seriously overworked as the only medical professional to see the patients regularly, and a minister who tries to make things easier with community involvement and his personal ministry to the patients. The patients include one man who has been there the longest and already watched many of his fellow patients go; one of two brothers, one of whom has been away and estraged from his stay-at-home, solid citizen sibling; a young woman who needs to talk about her provision for her daughter and the mother who doesn't want to hear that; a young man who has just arrived from a life on the streets.

The full production was originally mounted in church basements with the community center stage divided into two playing ares (two of the residents' rooms) and the floor before the stage as the main room of the house. Lighting was a simple, portable system - this play can be done with a modest budget in a medium presentation space.

A two act play. Three playing areas on one set (requiring a fair sized stage). Cast of ten. This play is available for staged readings or production by contract with the author.

$ 5.00, Print, Can be used by actors in a production. Digital edition available.
